I'm not a big fan of bananas, but it happened to be the subject of my term paper.
A number of my friends suggested topics for my term paper, but I picked the banana because it happened to be one of the things that my dad researched on. His work took him to the Philippines where that fruit is a staple food. He is amazed to find out that a number of local groups are involved in recycling damaged or overripe bananas.
I was amazed myself; I never thought that these not-so-good bananas can be useful. The only things to do are sun drying and a process that involves mixing it with some substances. In the case of banana peels, they'll turn it into fertilizers, which will be used to accelerate the growth of banana plants. In the case of overripe bananas, mixing it with other products would result to another banana product, which can be sold in supermarkets.
My professor was impressed with what I wrote when she handed back our term papers a week later.
